Abstract:

This study aimed at determining the physico-morphological attributes, in vitrofertilityand their interrelationships in semen of Sahiwal bulls. Semen samples werecollected weekly for 6 weeks from ten mature Sahiwal bulls divided randomly into 5 groups. The mean (±SEM) of ejaculate volume (mL), mass activity (score 0-5), progressive sperm motility (%), sperm concentration (106/mL), live sperm (%), abnormal sperm (%), intact acrosome (%), hypo-osmotic swelling (HOS) positive sperm (%), sperm penetration distance (SPD, mm) were 4.28, 3.17, 76.73, 1185.53, 83.37, 9.97, 82.70, 79.00 and 56.85, respectively. The bulls varied significantly (P

Sperm Characteristics in Cryopreserved Buffalo Bull Semen and Field Fertility

Semen quality and its relationship to fertility are major concern in animal production. The aim of this study was to assess the relationship between frozen thawed sperm characteristics and fertility following in vivo fertility through Artificial Insemination(AI). Semen samples were collected from four buffalo bulls. Semen volume and sperm concentration appeared to be significantly different (P0...

Bull Semen Evaluation Post-thaw and Relation of Semen Characteristics to Bull’s Fertility

Evaluation of the quality of cryopreserved bull spermatozoa is reviewed. The methods for the assessment of sperm quality have markedly improved over the last decades – starting with the assessment of morphological shapes and subjective motility analysis towards the more sophisticated analysis of the molecular changes in chromatin, membranes and catabolic activities of the sperm cell itself. Fun...

Fertility of Bull Semen Frozen in Skim Milk Diluent

In Victoria the usual diluent for deep frozen bull semen consists of a mixture of egg yolk, sodium citrate and glycerol. The semen is equilibrated in this mixture for 17 hours prior to freezing. O’Dell and Almquist (1957), and Amman and Almquist (1957) found that survival of spermatozoa as assessed by motility was increased when the semen was diluted with a mixture of glycerol, fructose and ski...

Quality and Fertility of Post Thaw Sephadex Filtered Bull Semen

The present investigation was carried out to assess the effect of Sephadex (G-15) filtration on the post thaw bull semen quality and conception rate. Post thaw unfiltered (control) and Sephadex filtered semen from four healthy bulls (three cross bred and one pure bred Holstein Friesian) were subjected to microscopic examination viz. sperm concentration, individual motility, live sperm count and...
